This begins a series of simple learning,
revision and practice videos
for people starting German.
I recommend starting with Nominative and then going through to
Accusative, Dative and Genitive
The German pronunciation here is kindly provided
by my fellow musician and friend Reinhold Behringer
(different regions may vary slightly: Reinhold's accent
is close to the "standard" version
but with a slight hint of Franconian (Würzburg area))
These videos use the same (public domain) images throughout
and put the relevant articles
through the various cases in singular and plural.
I have higlighted the articles in the videos as appropriate.
You will also see changes in the nouns
(plural forms and dative plural forms),
but I am not concentrating on these at the moment,
just take them as they are.
For convenience I'm providing a table here
of all cases and genders
for the articles in question.
German definite articles (= "the") Nominative Accusative Genitive Dative
Masculine der den des dem
singular
Feminine die die der der
singular
Neuter das das des dem
singular
All Plurals die die der den
German indefinite articles (= a/an, some) Nominative Accusative Genitive Dative
Masculine ein einen eines einem
singular
Feminine eine eine einer einer
singular
Neuter ein ein eines einem
singular
All Plurals einige einige einiger einigen
For a little variety I have also added a few examples with
the German word for "this" Nominative Accusative Genitive Dative
Masculine dieser diesen dieses diesem
singular
Feminine diese diese dieser dieser
singular
Neuter dieses dieses dieses diesem
singular
All Plurals diese diese dieser diesen
If feedback is favourable, I shall make some more videos of this kind,
using these ones with added adjectives, for example
in order to illustrate how the adjective endings
change after the various articles (eg "des klugen Mannes" etc)
