Pete Seeger is a national treasure. Those you trash Pete are the same people who would like to see the destruction of labor unions, and a return to working conditions of the 19th century. Pete's detractors are the same people who support US wars of agressions to enhance US corporations like Haliburton and Bechtel, and the oil companies. Those who dislike Pete are the type of peope who get a perverse joy out of poverty, unemployment, homelessness, union busting and militarism. Sing on Pete.

I don't dislike Pete Seeger, or labor unions. I disliked it, though, when my union dues were spent advocating candidates and issues I was against. Union dues ought to be used for retirement funds and strike funds, to support workers when they are on strike. I went through two three-month long strikes, and I sure could have used better pay from the union during those times.

A national treasure, along with The Weavers. His music will love long after he's gone.

I find it interesting that this praise of Pete is still continuing two years after this thread began. With a few exceptions, (Pete's detractors could hold a meeting in a phone booth), almost all comments are positive. No surprise there. As our 18th/19th century ancestors would say, Pete is a stout hearted lad indeed. What a life!

Pete Seeger was born in 1919. He is (at the time of this writing -- May 2012) 93 years old. I was first introduced to his music when my parents got me "Pete Seeger & Brother Kirk", a "Sesame Street" album, when I was very small. I'm in my early 40s now and Pete, his music and his message grow on me more and more with every passing year. He is a treasure indeed.
