The term "Hispanic" and what the Americans have done with it, is an absolute mess.

People from Spain, Argentina and Uruguay are white, yet they are grouped under the same racial category as Mexicans (which are mostly mestizo - mixed race), or the same category as Ecuadorians (many of which are black).

It's like calling black Jamaicans or Zimbabweans "Anglos", just because they were colonized by Britain. Completely irrational political correctness.

@elkidsays Though historically speaking the Portuguese are hispano the word has come to be associated with the Castilian monopoly called "Spain" today. Official Spanish language is "Castellano" The Spaniards can't be "hispanic" because they ARE "hispano" They can't be similar to themselves because they are themselves. The "ic" suffix in Hispanic means "like unto, following after the customs of" Hispania was the name given to what is roughly the Iberian Peninsula, in other words Portugal and Spain. "Hispanic" means "following after customs, culture and/or language of the "Hispanos" as "Sephardic" means "like the Sephardi Jews"

hispanic is a term who define people from spain. why? because roman gave the name of hispania for the current spain. and people were called hispanic. so actually people who north american call hispanic, they are actually south or cental american. that is all.
