Just a quick question... Why are they wearing red tunics apposed to their normal blues?
ProddyRyan 1 month ago
@ProddyRyan Since the early 19th century, military drummers and buglers wore the "inverse" uniform of the regular troops. In other words, the Marine musicians would wear red tunics instead of blue. The idea was to make them look different and more visible than the fighting troops. The musicians were primarily used for signaling orders to the fighters via drum cadences and bugle calls. The "President's Own" Marine Band continues the tradition with the red uniforms.

Is there a piccolo part normally?
Live4Flute4Ever 10 months ago
@Live4Flute4Ever Yes, Sousa no doubt wrote the part for piccolo and flute. Since this band is a scaled down version of the President's Own, no flutes are marching and only the piccolo part is covered.
