  • Star Wars has incredible set design and cool characters, but it does have some mediocre elements. I didn't notice anything mediocre in Annie Hall.

  • Annie Hall is as close to perfection as a movie can be. Wonderful writing acting, and the filmmaking is amazing. Star Wars had special effects but Annie Hall uses almost every other technique in moveis, from subtitles, split screen, animation etc. I was very happy when it won.

  • Annie Hall deserved it 100%. In true Allen style, the film was kept simple, but the gem was the writing, the characters, the acting, the simplicity, the wit, the humour, as well as the layers behind the screenplay. It's an incredible film. Star Wars is a great film too. But in my opinion does not trump Annie Hall.

  • Yes, “Annie Hall” deserved it. Great writing, great characters, great acting, and a great look at relationships. Plus, Woody Allen went on to create “Manhattan”, “Hannah and Her Sisters”, “Crimes and Misdemeanors”, etc.

“Star Wars” had good special effects for 1977, but really bad writing, bad acting, cardboard characters, and anyone who says Carrie Fisher is a better actor than Diane Keaton is a moron. Plus, George Lucas went on to do “Howard the Duck” and Jar Jar Binks.

  • @ptownpsjdlc I'm over 20. I study film. Annie Hall is very amusing, but Star Wars is the better movie. Star Wars is much more than just action figures. It's a highly influential motion picture. It enchanted me as a boy and it continues to inspire me in my adult years.

  • I've seen Annie Hall. I thought the part where we read Annie's thoughts was funny. Star Wars is my favorite movie of all time. It's the most exciting movie. And it also has a sense of humor. Annie Hall was just okay.

  • If you are sensitive to the bittersweetness of relationships and the human condition, Annie Hall delivers. Star Wars is a classic hero's journey, and the cultural impact of Star Wars is clearly greater. However if I had to choose which film tells us more about ourselves, it's Annie Hall.

  • We all know who earned the Oscar...we all think we know.

  • why didnt Woody Allen ever attend the award ceremony

  • @drxwnedxwxrld thats not what i meant u moron

  • Of course Annie Hall deserved it, Star Wars had great moments but this and Manhattan are the reasons why Woody Allen is considered a genius. Personally, Star Wars doesn't even come close.

  • 'Annie Hall' and 'The Purple Rose of Cairo' are to me the Allen films that hold up best. Allen was a real filmmaker of considerable wit and skill. 'Hall' is a masterpiece.

No comparison to the overblown video game by Goofy George.

  • Do I really have to be the villain here by saying Star Wars was the better picture and that Annie Hall was a complete mess and totally overrated?

  • Annie Hall richly deserved the award

  • @vadimzdonutube Since when was the Best Picture Oscar = film that stands the test of time because of popularity and a tremendous amount of sequels + merchandise?

  • @XZohar123 seriously man, annie hall isnt remembered by many, other winners like the godfather have stood the test of time without a problem

  • @vadimzdonutube And I've watched all of them.

  • @vadimzdonutube Really? I feel like annie hall passes the test of time better than most other best picture winners.

  • @lfmmic119955 im sorry but annie hall did not pass the test of time that every best picture winner is meant to take

  • "I'm into leather," "Nana hates Jews," "Alvie, you're an artist, so you'll understand . . . "

"I sound like FM radio." Jeez, it just goes on and on. Decades after this was produced, my wife and I still enjoy the hell out of it . . . it must be the eggs.

  • In fact, now that I'm thinking about it. The thing that I really enjoy most of all about Star Wars is remembering my childhood and its impact on my then. There's a lot of great stuff in the film, but that's my favorite thing about it.

  • Annie Hall is by far the better movie in almost every category except universal appeal. People from all ages and backgrounds can enjoy Star Wars, but most children are not going to like Annie Hall and feel its intended impact because they are too immature to fully understand and appreciate it. I would have totally said Star Wars had you asked me this question before I was say 20 years of age and could completely begin to fully appreciate all of the aspects Annie Hall has offered to the world.

  • Annie Hall?! Whos still talking about how memorable annie hall was?! besides the people here obviously...

  • @lfmmic119955 no it didnt

  • The film making in AH was just godly. Fucking masterpiece!

  • @dckitchen Have you even seen 2001? 2001 and Star Wars are two completely different movies. In fact, they're different in almost every aspect. Tone, pace, plot, music... The only thing they share is that they are both found in the "Sci-fi" section at Blockbuster video. You can't really put Star Wars in the same genre as 2001 just because they both happen to be set in space.

  • @dtwhitney Thier would be no star wars if it not for 2001 a space odysee, Kubrick invented the modern sci fi not star wars, anni hall as invented the rom com and changed comedy forever
