  • Hiya, nice video, I like seeing and learning how people do antennas, particularly if they're homemade.

I'm curious how your grounding is setup, since one up that high is bound to attract the attention of the lightning sooner or later!

  • I dont run any grounds. My thought is basically this.

Its a balanced antenna so i dont need to ground the radio to work properly.

If a lighting strike is hitting in the area, My wire isnt the highest point in the area, and if fate decides to hit the line, my gear is cooked regardless of how well its grounded with that much voltage passing through things.

  • Not boring at all !!! I'm curious how your SWR is prior to using an antenna tuner on whatever frequencies you tend to use.

  • I wonder why you have a 4:1 balun on the multi band antenna? Surely the antenna doesn't have an impeadance of 200 ohms on all frequencies does it? You would be cooking the balun when using frequencies at which the impeadance of the antenna is far removed from 200 ohms. The balun does not stop currents returning down the outer braid. You would be better off using a choke instead of the 4:1 balun.

I got really good at sling shotting fishing weights over the 100 foot trees around the yard. =)

  • Nice video , thanks for sharing.

I'm another ham that uses lots of wire antennas.

  • Well thanks for your comments.

I wasnt aware of the term Doublet. My understanding was that I made it after a Double Zep Center fed antenna. I guess they can all look the same.

The reality of it is, this antenna has worked the world and back and can be used on all bands. Its a great starter antenna to get on the air and have the ability to switch to any band you want and use it.

  • K2FR thank you for responding to my questions. I have found this video extremely helpful and encouraging. It wasnt boring at all.

Just finished studying for my Tech license and now I am cracking open the books for the General exam. Cant wait to get my ticket and a radio.
