After some trial and error, I finally managed to produced some supercooled water. This is the third time I have done this, but the first on film.

Supercooling is where purified or distilled water is chilled to 32 degrees (F) or below, but remains in a liquid state. But, if you agitate the liquid i.e. shaking it, the water will become ice instantly.

The technique I used was to place a bottle of Fiji water in a insulated thermos and let it chill for 5-6 hours in the freezer. The thermos slows the heat exchange, allowing the water to be evenly chilled.

  • do you have to use Fiji water?

  • No, it doesn't. Any purified water without anything added, i.e. minerals or vitamins, will work. The Fiji happened to be on sale before this was made.

  • ice before you're very eyes isnt that impressive

  • Yes, I know. Given the originally intended audience, it would have been impressive. You'll have to forgive me on that count.

  • i wonder what happend if you open it, and you touch it....

  • It could possibly burn you.
