Istanbul (Byzantine Constantinople) was once a capital of Christianity and the Ottoman Empire. Today it is the largest city in Turkey and boasts an impressive list of historical treasures including the Mosque-turned-museum Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, and the rich treasures of the Old Sultan's Palace. The Istanbul Archeology Museum houses marvelous pieces from Turkey, Asia Minor and afar.

  • We were comfortable in a light jacket and slacks. Bring a small umbrella. One or two days we had light rain. Good time to go though.
