Alexandria couldn't solve Thunder Bay starter Eric Brown (U. of British Columbia) for six innings but were able to get to the Border Cats bullpen as four runs in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings gave the Beetles a 4-3 win.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the eighth, Mikel Alvarez (FGCU) led off with a double off of the left-center field wall. Marcus Semien (Cal) then walked to put runners on first and second. Taylor Davis (Morehead St) laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners over and Tim Roberson (FGCU) was intentionally walked to load the bases. Matt Lowenstein (Loyola Marymount) followed with a RBI groundout to make it a 2-1 game. With runners on second and third, a wild pitch allowed Semien to score to tie up the game at 2-2.
Thunder Bay would score in the top of the ninth to make it 3-2 and it was the Beetles' turn to make some magic happen. With one out, Will Miller (Furman) hit a double and scored on an RBI double by Pat Biondi (Michigan). Biondi then stole third and Border Cats' catcher Taylor Honeycutt's throw got away from third baseman P.K. Kitamura. Biondi headed home and crossed the plate to give the Beetles the win in walk-off fashion.
