Crank Planer (Alfred E. Moore Machine Co. Winsted Conn) squaring steel block. The Motor is 3/4 hp running at 1750 rpm attached to a 1:10 gear reducer giving a shaft speed close to what it had with a lineshaft. The shaft has a reduction gear (1:4 reduction) that drives the bull gear. The steel block is about 6x6x2". The depth of cut is about .030" (Planer does not have a graduated micrometer collar on the downfeed screw). The feed is light for a heavy cut, about .010 (no graduated micrometer collars here either). The result is a spring like chip that is wide and thin.
Beautiful machine. Did you do the restoration?
