Yes, Cumbanchero was written by a Puerto Rican composer, but in the style of Cuban music which inspired it and has inspired musicians and composers of all nationalities. And by the way, what is salsa is Guaracha and guracaha is Cuban music. Bomba Plena is the music of Puerto Rico as is Merengue the music of Santo Domingo.

I do not know but he is terrific. A much better version is done by Kako Bastar and Ismael Rivera. Despite all the comments, this is Puerto Rican music, written by a Puerto Rican!!!

@pucho1950 La Guaracha, que tiene mas de 200 años es una de las madres de la Salsa. Rafael Hernandez autor de El Cumbanchero, tomó el ritmo cubano para hacerla. El Son Cubano, La guaracha, la Rumba Cubana llegaron a N Y y Puerto Rico, le hicieron variantes de instrumentación y le llamaron "Salsa". En una entrevista Celia Cruz dijo, "La Salsa es la Guaracha, ellos tocan Salsa y yo canto y marco como la guaracha y ya está"..

The best part of this is the trombone player. As far as the pianist, there are many who are just as good or better both living and passed away such as Peruchin, Richie Ray, Charlie Palmieri and the best of all of them Noro Morales.
