  • The balloon is made from a special mylar fabric called Trispi-25. It is not a standard balloon fabric. The 'smoke' that can be seen is steam as on a normal balloon, water vapour would pass through the fabric, whereas Trispi is non-porous.

  • Looks like its about to go up in smoke at the end...

  • As the fabric has no porosity, what you are seeing is water vapour (steam).

  • This flight was mainly to break the duration record although it did more than double the existing altitude record but flying at 458 metres. I will upload a more recent video of Pauline flying a balloon that is slightly larger to 13,500 feet in Italy earlier this year.

  • great. but it could be even smaller if it was filled with hydrogen!

  • Impressive. It really doesn't look big enough to carry a person, but I guess there is one heck of a temperature difference there, and the balloon probably weighs 3 lbs.

  • how do you get a clear balloon, none of the companies i have looked at offer that color fabric

  • How high did this go?
