The animation shows the velocity distribution in an 600cc FSAE engine intake manifold at 12000rpm.
During the complete engine cycle of 720deg the flow through the restrictor gets sonic for several times.

  • I saw this design on WWU's Formula SAE car. The managed to make 90 horsepower, even with the 20mm restrictor plate installed, which is quite impressive.
