Spring of 2005 I had to put down Austin, my service dog. After weeks of looking, I found a much smaller Lucy at the Marin Humane Society. She was called Angel, and was thought to be a border collie / lab mix. She was 36 pounds, and thought to gain another 10. The one thing they knew for sure was that she was smart, and confidant.
I brought her home and figured out really quick that she was no Angel, so she became Lucy (and Lucifer when naughty). And watching her run it is apparent that if there is Border Collie in her gene pool, there is lots more Greyhound and probably Dane. She is currently 56 pounds, and still growing.
We have engaged in lots of training with Mike Ossenbeck when we are home in Santa Rosa. But most of the time we spend on the road as a merchant/vendor at all sorts of events on the left coast. She takes her work of signaling for me, especially people approaching the van at night, very seriously. And all on her own, she has taken to monitoring my medications, poking me if I forget them.
We live on 5 acres out side of Santa Rosa where she has three other large dogs to run with. Her most favorite thing in the world is coursing (of course).
