marvellous book. Much of it is for dreamers, for example I'm not sure I will ever keeps pigs, but having read Seymour I feel I probably could if I had the opportunity.
Best things I learned from this was crop rotation and successional sowing in the backyard vegetable garden.
I bought Seymour's book when I was only looking into self sufficiency and I loved it. I am now trying to be self sufficient and I have found the book to be seriously lacking and unrealistic. The water colour illustrations bear absolutely no resemblence to a dead chicken or pig. The references to how many pounds of seed to cover an acre of land means that you need to sit down and work out how much you need for a dozen rows. Self sufficiency is not about planted an acre of one crop.
I have an ancient copy of The Complete Guide to Self Sufficiency by Seymour:-) .It is what started my love affair with all things self sufficient! Totally recommend it! I have many books written by Seymour. All are good reading . Other books I can recommend are 'A Greener Life' By Clarissa Dickson Wright and Johnny Scott. Fork to Fork by Monty Don, any of the River Cottage books by Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall ,Home farm Magazine, Permaculture Magazine and Country Smallholder magazine.
Actually...recently I described my place...which I have named Young Sycamores...as an intentional community of 1...since I live alone there with a cat...but of course, I relate to my friends, to my piano and art students and their parents, to family and friends, and to my neighbors and helpers in the country...so...I feel that whether it is alone or with others...we affect
those around us...specially if you take efficient action...look at the thousands who view your videos.
actually...looking at your space there, those white walls and the arch with the window...the niche...I wonder if you could do a video on you views on construction, architecture and aesthetics in the country...show us a little bit more of the setting...I love the white, the textured finish there...excelent set for the video...cultivating beauty is important..
uplifting...necessary for the revolution to light up.

I found the John Seymour book amongst my load of library books. Awesome information. Great illustrations. He has passed away now. Thanks for the tip.
