Culture in dialogue: „The Sound of Austria" in Athens

On 10th October an outstanding cultural event „The Sound of Austria" will take place at the SG Art Gallery of the St. George Lycabettus Hotel in Kolonaki,.

This event, co-organized by the Austrian Embassy in Athens, comprises an exhibition of works by famous Austrian artists, a concert of the renowned music ensemble „Wiener Solisten" as well as an Austrian Gala Dinner. The event is under the aegis of the Mayor of Athens, Giorgos Kaminis.

„The Sound of Austria" constitutes an exceptional example of the cultural dialogue between Austria and Greece, bringing together excellent artists, curators and galleries of both countries. In this project modern art and music interact with each other in an original way -- as a symbol of our European diversity in the field of culture, to which Austria and Greece contribute so much.

The opening of the exhibition which is organized in cooperation with the famous „Wiener Künstlerhaus" and in which works by the renowned artists Joachim Lothar Gartner, Christian Eder, Lui Janele and Thomas Kröswang will be presented to the Greek visitors, will take place on 10th October at 7pm at the SG Art Gallery (www.sgartgallery.com). The exhibition will run until 27th October.

During the opening of the exhibition the music ensemble "Wiener Solisten" (Edua Amarilla Zadory, Manuel Hofer and Jörg Ulrich Krah), which has already received several prizes, as well as the Greek composer Vasilis Stamatis will play contemporary Austrian and Greek music, including the musical piece „Variations on a Persian March" which Vassilis Stamatis has specially composed for this occasion.

Moreover, an Austrian Gala Dinner and a concert of classical music performed by the music ensemble „Wiener Solisten" will take place at 9pm to the benefit of the SOS Children's Village founded in Austria. Invitation cards are available at St. George Lycabettus Hotel (Mrs. Lemou, tel. 210 7234435/694 657 2900).

Sponsors of the event are the following companies: Berglandmilch/Alpiland, Dirollo, Austrian Airlines, Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich Wien as well as Winzer Krems.
