A recording from Barry's album "This Precious Time". Mamas and Papas appeared here as a backing vocal boys and girls. As you see, i put here some footage rom Shindig, where McGuire sang "Do You Believe In Magic" of cause. Wow... It's a 1965! The Mamas and Papas start their career so early!
Hope you enjoy this classical one.

  • john lennon and bob dylan had a few words to say about mama cass and barry in a taxi cab

  • @bectonbrainwave Oh, i know there's a footage on YT, with Dylan little bit drunk, and Lennon inside the car.. Would be interesting to check it out again? What they were arguing about Cass and Barry? :)

  • Love it when Cass and Michelle come in at the end. Keyboard King Larry Knechtal's piano solos kick ass too.

    RIP, Larry

  • Hi, are you sure that it's Larry on keybords? What is your source? I think he joined M&Ps only in 1967 in Monterey and then recorded Papas&Mamas. It's really interesting to me. And thanks for a great comment :)

  • Saw Barry in Motherwell,Scotland this month. He's still got it-a great night Barry and fantastic memories of the 60's!!

  • Wowee. Yessir. Still can't help thinking it's an exaggerated luxury to use Ms&Ps as a mere backing group, but you can't argue with the results! Another gem.

  • @christopher60s The Wrecking Crew played on ALL of the Mama's and Papa's records among MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY others...

  • @christopher60s his source is good check yours as the dude played keys on eve of destruction and Bazzas 1st album.....cheers

  • @christopher60s

He is THE piano player on practically every hit that came out of LA in the mid 60s and he played (and is credited) on all 4 of their first lps. Both John and Michelle even thanked him when the were inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame. He played on thirteen #1 records (along w/ the wrecking crew) Billboard's Hot 100 in a row!!

  • They were used as a backing group because they hadn't been launched by "California Dreaming" yet.

  • I've added Barry McGuire in my contacts at Facebook.

II's great to re-connect with the singer, since I first

met him at a local Calvary Church here in Hamilton, MT,

just before he began his evening spiritual performances,

    back on September 22, 2004.

In addition, Barry's cover of The Lovin' Spoonful's

signature folk-rocker is just as good as the original. :)

    I'm not too fussy...

I like this version and The Lovin' Spoonful's original. :)

  • Awesome. Great post.

  • I love this one better than The Loving Spoonfuls version this one is much better no offense
