http://DrRossPerry.com.au with Dr Ross Perry Bird Vet Specialist brings you a video clip of a recently commenced Community Vegetable Garden in Northbridge, a suburb on the north shore of Sydney, Australia. Growing vegetables without the use of pesticides and inorganic fertilizers is an important skill that urgently needs restoring and preserving. Small community gardens like this can become commonplace and are great ways of establishing friendships with neighbours while preserving heirloom self propogating vegetable varieties while we can. There are moves to control and limit our ability to do this with genetically modified hybridized seeds etc.
Small pieces of many of the herbs and vegetables we can grow as shown in this video make excellent treats for pet and caged birds that are likely to support their health and well-being. Remember some parts of some vegetables are poisonous for birds such as tomato stems and leaves, potato stems and leaves, garlic, onion, shallots, chives and rhubarb.
