Holograms are like pre-cinema optical toys, but they are still increasing in popularity. Sophisticated technology can now produce animated holograms, or what is known as kinetic image holograms, which can contain up to 25 frames of animation. Thus a one second movie can be contained in a single frame!
In this film I have composited two holographic images side by side. These images represent the old and the young, the big and the small. In a quickly transitioning world of fantasy each can be the other...
In practice, these animations can only be seen when a person views the holograms from different angles (lenticular images). Thus the movement of the observer in space and time contributes to this cinema's unfolding. Since holograms can also create a 3D illusion (by showing the different perspectives of the same object/ space when the viewer changes the angle of view, instead of changing the image with the changing viewpoint) they also contain time, thus they are often called 4D media.
