A really simple tutorial going through the usage of apt-get on the command line in Ubuntu. This includes install, remove, autoremove, update and upgrade.

Just a basic little 'add on' to my first video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGBsurVdLGY and only covers the basics.

Things I forgot to include: installing multiple programs/packages at once, information about apt-get automatically installing dependencies and information about adding extra software sources. I hope that one day I may be able to add these in, or if not you can just read the manual pages on apt-get (see 'man apt-get'), use the Ubuntu community documentation, forums, IRC chat on Freenode and Google.

I hope I can create some more, and I would like positive and/or constructive feedback. There's no use cussing me over it, if you tell me how to improve, I can try and work on things then. Thanks!

  • Can you make video tutorial for little advanced use of Ubuntu terminal? Just like ./configure, make install, etc.. ? I'm noob for Linux, today I founded those commands, but I'm sure that I have miss something huge :)

  • @JohneyBlue hey, I'd love to make another tutorial video although I admit it's been a long time since I've used Ubuntu regularly. It'll take sometime as I try and bring together some content and as I make it but I'd love to get one up in the next few weeks :)

  • this might be useful if u bothered to say how u even got to the screen your on in the first place - strange huhn?

  • It's just the terminal which you can find in one of the application menus, I assume if you're going to use the command line package installer you at least know where to find the command line terminal. Otherwise just stick with the GUI package manager.

  • Thanks was really helpful.

  • 'tis okay, and thanks :)
