Arlen is in good form; but, as far as outplaying Danny? Hmmm...check out the video from 2:30 to 3:00, with the back and forth between them. Arlen's hot, but at 2:44-3:00 Gatton just smokes him. DG's left hand skitters over that fretboard like water on a hot griddle. And he gives Arlen a nice Cheshire Cat smile at the end...the man was scary good.

Actually, it seems like they're friends just trying to make a good cut together, not trying to "smoke" each other...Danny's look there is out of frustration, and in fact, that particular lick didn't even end up on the final mix!

Actually, Arlen and Danny always knew about each other, before they met and became great friends. Arlen had only heard Danny once before this session, but Danny had all of Arlen's records since 1978!

@pmay222 Hate to say it but before you sell the strat, look closely - Danny's tele has a middle pickup!!!! But this is the only time I've seen him with a 3-pup tele, so go ahead! Strats are great too, but nothing compares with the middle position on a tele :-)

Danny Gatton would really annihilate every guitar player on this Planet! Don't believeme? just listen to his CD "Relentless" where he tears holes in the rhythm section. I still can't believe he isn't around anymore...he was effortless and entirely self deprecating ..the complete opposite of most guitar egotists. Most will think he's showing off but he never took himself seriously.
