Dr. Walter Frueh, on a WECT 6 Cape Fear Business Break with Meghan Donohue, discusses advances in knee surgery, including outpatient knee surgery, partial knee replacement as an option when arthritis is limited to one area, anesthesia and recovery time improvements. It is important to choose an experienced orthopedic surgeon if knee surgery or hip surgery is necessary. Dr. Walter Frueh has performed over 700-800 hip surgeries and knee surgeries. Over 1/3 of the hip and knee procedures are performed on an outpatient basis. Advantages of minimally invasive techniques include short incision, less blood loss and muscle interruption - both can lead to quicker return to activity.
