I really set myself up a few weeks ago with the poem video. Once I claimed I had done the extended butterfly move, I knew video proof would be an absolute necessity.

Of course, I spent several days to repeat what I had done in the kiddie park...without success!

But, finally, the move stealer demon brought the move back...

As a tribute to the MOVE STEALER DEMON, I used one of my favorite Bob Marley and the Wailers oldies. It is "Mr. Brown"--a song from his Lee Perry period (late 60's). Lee Perry went on to work with the Clash on one of their albums...and he is still around!

Mr. Brown is a classic Jean Konnu figure (or junkanno)--a devil figure marching in a street parade. But, then again, he might just be a crow perched on the hearse taking a coffin from a funeral in Mandeville to the graveyard in Sligoville!

MR BROWN is a clown who rides to town in a coffin!

Dressed in top hat, talking to us and laughing..oh, what a confusion...what a VIBRATION!

Down in Parade...people running like a masquerade..
Oh yeah yeah yeah...they think it fade.
Skanking as if they had never known
The man they call Mr. Brown

I can tell you where he's from now:
He's from Mandeville..to Sligoville
His coffin running around
UPSETTING UPSETTIN UPSETTING the town*
Asking for Mr. Brown

Is Mr. Brown controlled by remote?
Oh...calling Duppy Conqueror**
I'm a rose catcher.
This is your chance!
Take a chance!
Prove Yourself!
Oh!..we'll need Bill Bull Bucker.***

What a thing in town!
CROWS...chauffer driven around!

* a pun on the "wailers"--the drummer and the bass player, the Barrett brothers, were also known as the "Upsetters" before they became the "Wailers."

** A ghostbuster.

***Tough guy

Another John Canoe song is one of my favorites at Mardi Gras time. Know variously as the Iko Iko song or the JOCKAMO song, it was done back in the 1950's and there are a number of covers.

I read somewhere there are a number of junkanoo songs in the Carolinas, too. I remember Moby recorded some interesting music with the Gulla islanders...wonder if he has one?

  • have you tried in from just a basic invert? Invert/place dominant hand down on pole/square up hips/take leg off that is on the same side as the upper(non dominant hand) open hip out a little to get your "jester" leg behind you. looks good

  • @pegasusaerialfitness Thanks! Yes, I did manage to figure out this move much later on...the butterfly is one of my favorites. /Joel Lessing

  • thisi s a little creepy. but nice, you are better at this than expected

  • @antczak11 Thank You! There are many excellent male polers out there who perform at a level of competitive, athletic excellence. Check out the Remy and Martin traditional Chinese style athletic/circus performances. It's first class male pole and is just pure athleticism for its own sake. /joel lessing

  • I bet this will be a the best work out that you ever do, harder than it seems, be careful

  • @Cpricrn1983 Thank you! /Joel Lessing

  • @beatrixtowers lol...thanks...it's a cheap one from the dollar store..../Joel

  • be careful with that mirror!

  • @vixtaleo That sound interesting--I'd like to try it...but I am terrible at visualizing moves from written descriptions (lol, I always say I am "pole stupid" that way!!) I will look around for some tutorials for the butterfly doen that way...or if you have a link to a video, send it to me in a PM. Thanks for watching and commenting on the video! (Joel Lessing/Poledancefan) I am on facebook, by the way--if you are a Facebook poler...

  • have you ever tried going in to this from a kiss hold? hook your dominant leg on the pole as high as you can and grip, other leg on the opposite side of the pole out straight, then top hand between your legs and bottom hand as low as possible. just a different method, would love to see your take on it! x
