As part of the "Genius of Mozart" season on BBC Radio 3 from 1-12 January 2011, Stephen Johnson visits Clandon Park House in Surrey to explore Mozart's most famous serenade - "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik".

He's joined by the architect Jonathan Foyle to discuss the links between Mozart's musical structures and the Palladian-style architecture of the period, and by the historian Steven Parissien who'll be giving his insight into the social history of the time and into the European-wide concept of 18th century sensibility.

Musical extracts are played by The Doric Quartet and double-bass player Tim Gibbs.

  • perhaps the best version ever played. Period.

  • nice violo

  • Very nice! To the previous comment, this is an American speaking German, Gluck!

  • @Grooverfc haha ;D

  • @WorstRescueEver Just like Germans speaking English ;)

  • The cellist looks like one of those bobble head figures that sits on the back ledge of a car. Does it really enhance the tone of the instrument by bobbing the head around so much? It's quite an affectation, but very irritating to watch! Beautifully played however as an ensemble and wonderful music of course!
