Lyrics:
Had a dream
You and me and the war of the end times
And I believe
California succumbed to the fault line
We heaved relief
As scores of innocents died

And the Andalusian tribes
Setting the lay of Nebraska alight
'Til all the remains is the arms of the angel

Petty green
Queen of supply-side bonhomie bone-drab
If you know what I mean
On the road
It's well-advised to follow your own path
In the year of the chewable Ambien tab

And the Panamanian child
Stands at the Dowager Empress's side
And all the remains is the arms of the angel
And all the remains is the arms of the angels

And you've receded into loam
And they're picking at your bones
Will call cold
We'll come home

Quiet now
Will we gather to conjure the rain down
Will we now
Build a civilization below ground
And I'll be crowned
The community kicked it around

And the Andalusian tribes
Setting the lay of Nebraska alight
'Til all the remains is the arms of the angel
'Til all the remains is the arms of the angels

  • @NarutoDisturbed indie rock

  • @NarutoDisturbed Indie Folk Rock (:

  • Should be: "Hetty Green"

  • I'm just curious. This isn't country, right? What genre would this be classified as? I'm not good with genre names. I think there's too many nowadays.

  • I love the small bit at 1:55 where the song picks up speed a bit and it switches to the older Decemberists style for a few seconds.

  • @inyetyemela

Actually, the reference is to the "Andalusian tribes" from southern Spain, such as the Visigoths, who had a heavy hand in the downfall of the Roman empire. The line about these tribes "setting the lay of Nebraska alight" is him imagining America ending in the same manner as the roman empire, our heartland ravaged by roaming barbarians and tribal armies.

The guy is such a brilliant lyricist! The Decemberists rock, thanks for the upload.

  • Ok, I love this song but...."And the Andalusian tribes..." Hmmm, I'm andalusian and well...we aren't a tribe! Maybe "tribe" can mean something else in english??

    Anyway, The Decemberists rules!!!!!!!!

  • "Hetty Green, queen of supply side bonhomie bone-drab. Know what I mean?"

No Colin, I do not know what you mean. Still love the song.

  • You got some of the lyrics wrong. I know 'cause I have the CD.. which has all the lyrics... These are the correct lines: 'Til' all that remain is the arms of the angels' 'Hetty Green Queen of .... (Know what I mean?)' 'It's well advised you follow your own BAG' 'And all that remain is the arms of the angels And all that remain is the arms of the angels' 'WHEN you've receded into loam and they're picking ... We'll come home' 'And I'll be crowned the community kick-it-around'
