  • These guys aren't spring chickens anymore, I'm a professional musician, and the way I do something now as opposed to the way I did it in my 20 somethings is much different, but just because it's different doesn't meant it's not good.

  • I totally agree!

I thought they were amazing, and the whole crowd around me sure seemed to be enjoying the show as well.

  • another quick point about the Police Show - Stuart Copeland literally punished those drums for the entire show - I haven't seen any other drummer play with such energy... it was crazy! He was killing drum sticks at a furious rate...

  • Sting has become a kind of jazz lounge parody of his former self, he should re-record this and call it "King of Comfy"

  • I'll kindly disagree with that statement...

Sting has matured as an artist, and his voice is as strong as it has ever been (unlike other artists who get weaker with age). As we get older and shift musical taste, it is our right to revisit our old work and re-interpret them as we see fit - the material the Police played at the show was a balance of both un-touched songs and some reworked pieces. If I really feel like hearing all the old songs, I'll break out the old albums and give them a spin...

  • Personally i think the whole point of the police live was the intense energy, Sting has been touring for so long with subservient session players who havent critisized his jazz-esque watering down of his melodies, some of these songs have been transposed down by a whole 4th (so lonely) Where is the energy? Where is the pain? "King of comfy!! ) ;-)

  • Did you go to any of the shows? The show I went to was incredible - the energy level (on the floor where I was anyway) was off the charts... everyone around me was singing along with the songs and dancing away... King of Pain was a "slow" song anyway - and performed quite close to its original form.

and "Subservient session players"? Branford Marsalis could be hardly considered as such... I have seen Sting live 4 times (the first 4 tours after going solo) and enjoyed all 4 shows immensely...

  • They're in their 50's and 60's now. Who's delusional enough to think they're supposed to act like arrogant 20 somethings with something to prove?

Sure they're mellower, but the songs still hold up and that's the mark of a great band and composer. I saw the tour in L.A. it was GD phenominal!
