I know where you're coming from about the automatics, dude. I was giving you grief. Invariably, when horsepower levels reach those of the Veyron: 1000 or more, the paddle-shift automatic is the way to go. Otherwise it is too easy for the untrained driver to destroy the drivetrain with so much available torque. It is the standard in Formula One because of the reliable, accurate, and computer-controlled-lightning fast shifts. But for pure driving fun, give me a real gear shift.

Give me a fairly low mileage '02 C5 with a six speed for 20gs, or just over -- THE most bang-for-your-buck performance car available these days, by far. Stock, it still kicks major ass. Yet with its excellent overall platform, it has the potential to be turned into a monster without being an outrageous investment. You Tube's full of 'em. See a blown C5 suck the doors of a new $90,000-plus Zr1 on the Interstate. Hunt for it.

Yeah, Corvette Zr1s, Zondas, Porches, and more are available with true manuals. Automatic transmissions are by no means more reliable. Other than wearing out a clutch or throw-out bearing, it's pretty hard to trash a manual gear box, especially in performance cars unless you're a stupid gorilla. An automatic can fail fifteen different ways and always ends up being expensive. And in most comparisons of auto vs manual in identical models -- the manual is quicker 0 to 60 hands down.

Autos are faster if you are talking about a drag car that runs like 8s or faster. Manual is much more fun. Auto is boring. Yes auto is faster for the super fast 6,7 second cars but guess what, THAT'S NOT WHAT THESE CARS ARE. We are talking 9-13 second cars, manuals are faster and much more fun for this group.

Ford GT Saleen S7 lamborghini murcielago several ferraris porches and many many more. All though i agree, an auto is much faster than any human. But then again you dont realy get to pick your gears and there just not much fun to drive.
