This week was Marine Turtle Awareness Week. Reef HQ Aquarium's Turtle Hospital in conjunction with the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park released 6 Marine turtles at the Strand.
This was made possible thanks to the continuing success of the Hospital.
Reef HQ Aquarium Director Fred Nucifora believes that this morning has truly shown that Townsville is aware and are ready to take action and insure we have minimal effects on Marine Turtles.

Among the 6 marine turtles being farewelled this week was 150-kg Raylene the turtle, who is estimated to be 50-years-old and whose shell is a 107cm in length.
Raylene required the strength of 6 employees at Reef HQ in getting her to the beach and safely back into the water.
Mark Hamann from James Cook university said the releasing of these turtles will prove successful as the turtles will be monitored through satellite and radio tracking devices by both JCU and REEF HQ.
