About half the crashes in these vids could be avoided if the runways were longer. They should be long enough for a plane to take off and land in one run. That way there's always somewhere to go.

@themanfromwem My pleasure. I can agree on a level that the pilot was unaware of the severity until ATC informs the pilot of flames. I am inclined to believe that would indicate a serious problem. I also agree that it is a sad situation for all those whom lost their lives and the loss of the concorde.

@BigCJFan Thank you for the reply. I am inclined to think the same as you---keep it on the runway. However, perhaps the pilot was unaware of the SEVERITY of the fire and thought he could recover safely back in time to the airport. It is a shame that the events happened and a shame that we will never know the reason why the take off continued. Regards, Howard, Shropshire, UK

@themanfromwem I'm sure it was an extremely difficult choice. Unfortunately that choice cost people on the ground their lives as well as inside the plane.
-
@AliRedpath Well I guess I am an idiot for looking at the probability of survival when faced with off runway or taking flight.
-
@BigCJFan I agree, but in the heaT OF THE MOMENT IT MUST HAVE BEEN A DIFFICULT CHOICE FOR THE PILOT.
-
BigCJFan - you are an idiot. "I think that..." does not compare to over 20 years of flight experience and a haphazard and purely arbitary series of events.
-
Ok so a POS DC10, just for being there at the same time, crashed the concorde? that is really fucked up you know........

@TheDaddyCokes Dragon Ball Z. Frieza says that planet Namek will be destroyed in 5 minutes. It takes 8 episodes lol.

Ever notice that "Seconds From Disaster" is typically about 10 minutes of actual content and 40 minutes of repetitive hype? Save me the state-of-the-art reconstructions and give me Air Crash Investigations any day.

I would think it would have been safer to speed off of the runway then to try and lift a plane that is in flames off of the ground.
