My pair of Jaguar Cichids (P.Managuense) defending their spawn. The male (Pompeii) is the one that nearly jumps out to bite me. He has since killed his lovely wife.

  • Thanks. This video was posted 3 years ago, and unfortunately the female has since died (the marital bliss witnessed here didn't last...). The male, however, is still going strong and is now over 14" long. And he's still every bit as aggressive as he was in this video. I'll have to post a new video sometime.

  • The male is the larger one who kept attacking my hand...It's hard to tell them apart when in breeding dress. When they're not breeding, the male loses the stripes in favor of a spotted pattern (hence the term jaguar), whilst the female looks pretty much the same. The tank was a 75 gallon.
