@rebeccazay - Actually Morrissey was influenced by the Cure,not really the other way around. I think part of the reason the band named themselves the Smiths was after Robert Smith.

Robert once half-jokingly commented that they wore the dresses to "dare off" Indomachine who were trying to appear like the Cure, presuming they wouldn't go as far as to wear dresses onstage, sooo....

[Of course, as time evolved --or "devolved", Indomachine was looking as camp as a row of trashed pink tents pitched in a gutter back of a prostitute parlor.]

I remember watching that that night. The band was working in France on "Kiss Me", and my friends and I were dying to hear new material. We tuned in on that crappy tv show just to see if they would preview any new stuff, but they just did the re-recorded Boys Don't Cry instead.
I read in the paper they did the dresses cos they couldn't give a fuck about lipsynching on a crappy french show and thought at least the outfit would make it funnier.

Awe.. the Cure showing their rebellious side about lip synching again. Gotta love them for that!! the Cure is my all time favorite band for 24 years now and they never let me down with their crazy antics!! The Cure is a phenomenal band with such amazing music and such poetic genius indeed!! ILY Robert!! The Cure Forever!! <3
