This is my Master's thesis for my grad school project, which is about the human papillomavirus. HPV is a sexually transmitted disease which is allegedly the most common among sexually-active adults. This first part is an introduction to HPV, and why you should know about it. There is also a very brief history of STI awareness in this country, and how it has changed since the 1980's.
For Part I of this series, I took footage from three great movies: "Eddie Murphy Delirious", "Kids", and "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery", and I have given full credit where it is due.
Special thanks to Lisa Spinelli of the Boston Phoenix, Kate Adelstein of the Dimock Health Center, Marcus Schwarz of the Boston HPV and Herpes Support Group, and Dr. Adina Nack of California Lutheran University for willing to be interviewed for this story. Special thanks addiitonally to Giada Tridello for filming the multiple stand-ups required for this story. Also, extra special thanks to the folks at Boston University: Jake Kassen, Shane Kocher, Tim Lynch, Sasha Norkin and others for the equipment to shoot this story and for help with Final Cut Pro. Without their help, this story would not have been possible.
