These low E double seconds are made from 1.4mm thick steel as opposed to 1.2mm thick steel that is traditionally the standard for pan making. The quality of steel has dimished over the years and pan tuners have been suffering with thinner and inadequate steel even though it is marked as 1.2mm. Thicker 1.4mm steel seems to react well for making steel drums, similar to how steel responded to tuning a decade ago.
