JESUS CHRIST, what a DEVASTATING chorus! "Gone broke-- Our time was our money..." This heartbreaking gem that Nicole is crooning was written by Robert Harrison and appears on the Cotton Mather album "The Big Picture." A portion of an acoustic version of the original can be heard here:

The studio version from "The Big Picture" can be heard here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8Dis7GDuMw

If this is the fruit of the collaboration, or side project, of Nicole and Robert's known as Sir Parker, then all I can say is, "MORE, please!"

The performance you are watching took place at the RARE Gallery in Manhattan at the Nic Rad art exhibit known as the People Matter Project.

For those you still reading Nic Rad's saga about his sojourn with The Sea (the band) and it's skipper (Nicole), you've arrived at Part Five. For those of you who have arrived at this video of the RARE Gallery gig first, the story begins here:

Part Five:
On the way back to Neptune City we changed enchanted van drivers three times. There was a dance performed at the gas pump to keep the blood moving. Good money was lost on scratch off games. We talked about Wilco, Bob Dylan, and Amy Winehouse. We talked about stealing internet and selling songs to Volkswagen commercials. Closer to home the gas stations have shrines to Nicole's budding career. Newspaper articles clipped and hung over scented candles with the EP for sale and my artwork saved from posters and flyers scattered around Wonderbread and Beef Jerky and Star Pops. Through the window you can see soft shoulders and high weeds dying off into the channels and rivers that cut through this part of New Jersey where Nicole is from. Last summer my girlfriend and I milled around here and Nicole took us to vintage shops where they sold things that were kitsch in some time period no one can quite remember, like flamingo faux-Victorian lamp shades, and three eyed clay masks of Clark Gable.

In Neptune we sleep earnest and hard. I was on a couch and some of the band was doubled up and making the appropriate jokes and we touched the pillows when the sun raised then bacon showed up and it was good and then we were back at sea.

There were some rumors that the enchanted pirate ship tour van was supposed to be in Toronto that night. But those rumors were wrong. Nicole could not be in Toronto because we were drinking slog and honking at locals in Boston. She spent most of the drive doing phone interviews and trying to set the story straight. She would break some hearts in Toronto on Monday. So it goes.
