Magnificent Antique French Ormolu Clock Set

A very large and stunning antique French clock set. It is beautifully made in ormolu (finely gilded brass / bronze) in the style of Louis XVI, featuring bold acanthus swags, floral swags and masked urns. Surmounting the clock is a covered urn with removable cover. Matching urns form the stems of the candelabra and the arms are formed as stylised acanthus flowers. The reverse of the clock set is decorated and brightly polished allowing the set to displayed in the centre of a room. Parts of the set are signed 'CJ'.

The dial is enamel on copper, lettered in blue and is complete with original finely fretted gilt hands. It is covered with convex glass. The rear door is also glazed to allow the movement to be seen.

The French movement is by Samuel Marti and has the clockmakers mark on the backplate. It is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent with lovely clean and bright finish. There is some very minor / tarnish wear to the original gilding on the high spots. Candelabra are slightly distorted and the removable cover of the clocks urn has a slight dent in the rim but this is at the rear. The dial has some slight chipping around the right hand winding hole.

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
