U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman discusses the Homeland Security Appropriations Bill that passed the Senate this week. The measure will fund New Mexico projects and research, from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia to the National Infrastructure Simulation and Analysis Center at Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories, and research at New Mexico Tech in Socorro.
Bingaman also highlights some of the border-security initiatives contained in the bill that will boost border counterdrug programs, law enforcement activities, and funding to combat violence and weapon and drug smuggling along the Southwestern U.S. border. The bill must now be signed by the president.
