This video shows you how you can have a clear water garden or koi pond. Yes I know that in SOME parts of the country it is called a bulkhead fitting instead of a bung. BUT around here it's called a bung fitting. CHECK YOUR DICTIONARY.

  • Water hyacinths

  • Never scrub down a koi pond as you will kill off your beneficial bacterial. Try not to do more than a 10 per cent water exchange if you can help it. The plants will help with the algae, decrease feeding, and try to get a small box filter that you place in the small pond.

  • I use floating water hyacinths . I use a net to contain them if they are in the pond because the koi tear at the roots and make a mess in the water if I don't. The koi love to spawn on the netting if you want to try to raise babies.Mosquitoes are not a problem...I think the koi eat the eggs. The water flow from the filter keeps that water turning over back into the pond so no mosquito problem there either.

  • This pond is only about 2 feet deep.

  • I have great success putting the plants in the filter tub and usually also add a net to the ponds holding more water hyacinths. This allows me to have plenty of plants to water ratio and keeps the koi from destroying the plant roots and making a mess of things. Also, the koi LOVE to spawn on the netting. I use a seining net from Wal Mart fishing department.

  • I used UV filters for a few years, but really couldn't tell too much difference with or without them.

  • what type of plants are in ur filter?

  • what type of plants can i use 4 the filter?

  • I have goldfish in my pond instead of koi, but I just let them eat the roots of the water hyacinths. The plants multiply fast enough that the fish don't kill them. I also have an aquatic pot with papyrus in gravel that the fish can get to the roots of as the roots grow out of the pot. The fish seem to be quite healthy, and I don't feed them any fish food all summer. Of course, I don't have a lot of fish in the pond. 120 gallons of water in the pond, 3 big goldfish, that spawned this year.

  • with these plants i don´t need to uso UV filter! =)

  • how bout mosquito's?.... do you get mosquito's breeding in your pond or in the filter tank?

  • haha i hav a small white rack :D

  • Hi there love your pond I have a 60 gallon preformed pond that houses turtles.I do not currently have a filter only a pump for circulation and my water is sooo green with algae.I just got some of the water hyacinth if I were to put these in the pond would this help the algae any ? Should I drain the water & scrub the pond as I cant afford a filter right now ?
