Between the shareware versions of v1.1 and v1.2, only 3 maps got changed (ED: 5). But unlike the last 4 videos, these are not humorous bug fixes. So I'm going to combine them into this video.

E1M1 has a small bugfix and a new secret. The bug is trivial: there's a stimpack outside the armor window. As for the secret, it's the elevator with the armor bonuses and the shellbox.

As you've probably seen on Lee Killough's DOOM memorabilia page archived on John Romero's site ( http://www.rome.ro/lee_killough/ ), E1M4 had a swastika in it that got changed at a later version. But what you didn't know was that the original swastika was left-faced. Then it got changed to the familiar right-faced swastika.

E1M5's invincibility secret was also added in v1.2. Notice that the sphere makes the item pickup sound instead of the iconic sphere sound. This also applied to the soulsphere.

  • I never realized that room was in the shape of a swastika, but that's probably because I never look at the map.

  • Yeah, it was supposed to be a reference to Wolfenstein. It wasn't very well recieved, though.

  • I'm not a fan of the E1M5 change, it probably balances deathmatch better but the only teleporter in episode 1 should be the one at the very end that takes you to Deimos.

  • The swastika was changed just into strange alien sign in 1.9

  • The swastika was changed into a more indistinct shape in later versions, but if you look closely in v1.666 or later it still kind of resembles a swastika with the ends of the arms moved around.

  • Even then, you can't jump out of the armor windows without enabling no-clipping mode. The inside lines of the windows are impassable. Jumping is futile.

    You can, with both jumping and freelook, see the stimpack sitting on the ground by jumping and looking down on the left window.

  • How else would you expect him to get out of the window? There wasn't any jumping in classic doom; that feature was only added through modding the engine.
