An obscure and I seem to remember fairly short lived series on BBC2. I have a very vague memory that this concert was from sunny Hitchin, maybe The Regal? It was probably 1983, and before the stylists got their hands on them, as they aren't the technicolour nightmare they eventually morphed into.

This section: Kamikazi and Love Lies Bleeding.

  • Superb!!

Your correct, this was indeed recorded at the Regal in Hitchin in 1983, I remember it VERY well, I live in the next town (Letchworth) I remember how pissed off I was that I couldn't go to the show.

There's a Doctor's Surgery and appartments where the Reagal used to stand, it got closed after someone got their head run over in a big fight about a year later.

I have an audio bootleg CD of this but this is the first time I've seen this since it was on BBC2.

  • i'm intrigued as to how you get your head run over in a fight??!

you should make your own blue plaque and affix it to the doctor's surgery in memory...or a picture of your tattoo at least!

  • From what I can remember, One of the drunken gang members (badly beaten and pissed off) hot-wired a nearby steam roller and charged at the rival gang in it. One of them triped over and the roller went over his top half causing his head to explode. The Regal got the blame, so it was bye bye Regal :(

  • christ on a bike...what a way to go???!!

  • Who are the nameless Thompson Twins on instruments? Were they on the record or just for the tour?

  • Boris!

  • In the days before MIDI, I see that it was necessary to travel with a team of synthesizer players. Total musicianship across the board. Real live performances are lost in this modern era of Digital Audio Workstations.

  • Where's my manners....

Thank you ever so much for posting this footage I've really enjoyed seeing it again.

    Five stars for you.

  • I spoke to a mate of mine Pete who's a few years older and he has corrected me thus: The fight where the boke got run over was outside a pub named Jeans which was a right toilet near the railway station, that's how it got closed, the murder that happend in the Regal was a guy from Royston was stabbed. Pete told me his name but I've been asleep since then and can't remember it..

As ever the few spoil it for the many.
