Killing Joke are an English post-punk band formed in 1978. Founding members Jaz Coleman (vocals, keyboards) and Geordie Walker (guitars) have been the only constant members. A key influence on industrial rock, their early music was described as "quasi-metal ... dancing to a tune of doom and gloom," which gradually evolved over the years, incorporating elements of electronic music, synth-pop, gothic rock and alternative rock, though always emphasising Coleman's "savagely strident vocals".
Finding modest commercial success, Killing Joke have influenced many later bands, such as Nirvana, Ministry, Amen, Lamb of God, Nine Inch Nails, Porcupine Tree, Napalm Death, Amebix, Big Black, Opeth, Godflesh, Dead by April, Tool, Prong, Metallica, Franz Ferdinand, Primus, Jane's Addiction, Soundgarden, Foo Fighters, Faith No More, The Banner, Blacklist, Shihad, Pitchshifter, Das Oath, Rammstein and Korn, all of whom have at some point cited some debt of gratitude to Killing Joke.

If you have a chance to go see them live DO IT! since a Killing Joke concert is still prettyu awesome since their sound and songs are still unique, even after more then 30 year of existence.

  • I don't understand why some people think that rock bands, music and even politics are like football teams! Killing Joke are my fucking top fave band of all time. But I also love foo fighters and even like smells like ... wow am I a traitor? imitation is a compliment remember, not a complication ...!

  • @errumm0 I totally agree with you. If the people here look at all the vids in my channel they know what you mean. Not only you can find KJ, Pixies, Nirvana and the Foo Fighters, there's load of other good stuff but it's a waste of time comparing the shit. Just enjoy REAL music..

  • er sieht über seinen eigenen erfolg äußerst erschrocken aus...

  • look mommy, i'm face-painting!

  • come as you are? as you were?

  • One of them was in the brilliant punk band Neon Hearts. Paul Raven, if I remember correctly.

  • @errumm0 You're right! Anyway Killing Joke stole the "eighties" riff to the Equals' "Baby come back"!! Then Nirvana stole it again, so what? This the way music goes, creating is stealing...

  • @10Hours1Minute Only been playing guitar for 22 years and bass for 16. And I'm American, actually. There's nothing "pompous and pedantic" about labeling a genre. I'm not really sure why you're so bitter about the term (or why you have such little understanding of it). Did a Joy Division fan steal your lunch money on the regular or something? Anyhow, do some research (and perhaps enable spellcheck) before you start insulting others.

  • @soundofsulfer how great Killing Joke IS.

  • @VeilReinMidnight You probably havent picked up a guitar in your entire life. Plus your argument is incorrect. Killing Joke was never even close to post punk. Whatever that pompous and pedantic term means.. But then again Im sure your a British squid..

  • @otherside65 First of all IM NOT EVEN TALKING. YOU FUCKING MORRON.
