A weird and pointless machine

From my 3D animation production module in my second year at Teesside university.

*note: all models by me other than the hand that comes out from under the sheets, that has been extracted from the primitive 'character - man' model in XSI'*

Based on the work of Heath Robinson, we were set the task of making a machine to carry out a pointless operation.

I created various fairly basic textures for this in Photoshop, though the majority are copyright free (to my knowledge) and found through a Google search

I can pick out a load of problems with this, and this is how it was handed in, but I kinda just want to leave this as is and move onto other things

Did you just sync the events in time or is there an actual physics engine behind this (I mean, at least the simpler stuff, like the gears and the box that turns them on)

There aren't any physics at work, though I used expressions (equations in XSI that cause one object to drive another, so cogs will move at the correct speed).

There's hand-keying at work as well, and some animation along curves

This is sooo cool. how did you build this and how could you afford multiple tables to do it over and over again?
