An alternate version of footage I shot in Gary Indiana. I included some original music in this one and also some still photos in sequence at the end.

Lenses used: Hartblei 35mm Super Rotator; Canon 24mm tilt/shift.

I hope you enjoy this because most of the time I was roaming Gary, I felt rather in serious danger. Well, at least Gary is no longer the murder capital of the US. That distinction now belongs to New Orleans.

  • Nice work. I'm working on a similar project, but I'd never go into any one of those buildings alone.

  • Yeah, I guess it's a little crazy. I have shot places in Chicago where I felt in danger...and I certainly felt in danger in Gary. I think next time I'll hire a bodyguard. But I can't stop shooting in those environments...they are simply too interesting. And now that I have video capability, it's even more interesting. :-)

  • @asemchuck

The church is the saddest thing. It tells a whole story all by it's self

  • Reminds me of Max Payne, for PS2.

  • Nagasaki looked better after being nuked as the place was flat out clean, this looks like Beirut after 10 years of civil war.

This is not exactly a way to attract tourists.

And do as the grafiti says: question everything.

Another moment of clarity. Planned future.

  • Gary isnt as dangerous as people make it out to be...

  • church is creepy. i heard two girls got raped in a church basement in Gary... could it have been that one?

  • When i looked at the church scene, i was thinking "where is your god now?"

  • @kage574 That is exactly what happened during the great depression! People left the midwest for california! Where do they go now? California is just as bad economically now.

  • @vanvanbluz its a combination of things but mainly economic downturns cause these places to become deserted like this. its sad

  • @kage574 what the hell, do people just leave, or are they kicked out by foreclosure?

  • @vanvanbluz plenty of spots like this all thru the midwest
