this is the best i've ever heard john's voice, and i've heard everything officially released and a decent fraction of unreleased stuff... his voice here, i can't believe what i'm hearing. i am alone in this? there's an utter purity to it here, zero filter between thought and expression...

The greatest rock song ever made.
-
Maybe the pinnacle of all music.

God, hear the bass. THE FUCKING BASS!
Oh my, i love The Beatles.

Indeed, it is great to hear how their music evolved from conception to delivery. John retracted many of the things he said about Martin, McCartney and The Beatles once he got a little distance.

@Kaalec YES, I love these earlier studio " takes " working toward the polished album version. However, even in that, some of the earlier takes seemed better than the finished product ! Its wonderful to still have these to listen to. And yes, hats off to George Martin for giving The Beatles a chance and working so well with them ( even John ) !!

@124slowhand It was Lennon who wanted to combine one take with another when they were recorded in different keys. Martin had to slow the higher key down to match the lower key. That's what gave it that odd dreamy quality. And Lennon approved it. Lennon said a lot of disparaging things about The Beatles and Martin after the split. The truth is without George Martin, there have been no Revolver, Ribber Soul or Sgt. Peppers.

Pure geniuses. These men were. I love them so very much.
Yeah "The End" was a great track too but I think "Strawberry Fields Forever" is way better.

It's about Lennon's ego and insecurities and how he felt growing up thinking he was either mad or genius. The lyrics are really abstract and almost random, but can be understood from a certain perspective.
