This piece was carved as part of "Chiseled", a two-week stone carving symposium in Vandalia, OH. This piece and four others (from Lasha Khidasheli, Matt Weir, John Leon and Patrick Sullivan) was carved from 9/4/10 - 9/18/10. The original block of Indiana limestone weighed approximately 12,000 lbs.

  • how much does a 12 000lbs chunk of indiana go for?

  • @clarkejamin

It depends on what type of stone and how many cuts. The stone itself is very cheap, but getting it cut and delivered costs a bunch. This stone was probably worth $3000-$5000 after delivery. If you can find a rough block that suits your purpose, it would probably only cost a few hundred dollars before shipping.
