@clbeav One of the cleanest energies out there, if your not considering living next to it..EVER....The people of Japan were sold that myth too..They bought it and are now paying with their lives..Here on the west coast of the USA we wonder. Is there radio active stuff in the air that our government isn't telling us..Then we think, our government would NEVER EVER tell us an untruth. So, we rest thankful knowing as you do, that the nukes are clean.. Can we build them in your backyard?

@brenpal you do realize tidal currents/ranges are predictable years in advance and rarely deviate. Geothermal has as many uncertainties as tidal energy does. Couple that with the fact that the UK has 59 TerraWatts-hour potential marine energy.

@apocalyptchybrid3 Nuclear is one of the cleanest energy resources out there.

Right way to go. U.K. will experience a fall in cancer and other illness if it goes full swing into this truly clean and eventually FREE source of energy. R.I.P. to Nukes and Nuclear Power Energy.

Ok, EDF are planning on building new nuclear power stations in the UK. If you want to help stop this and you are currently with EDF end your contract NOW! They'll ask why and you tell them. Enough people opt out and they'll stop their plans...

The SNP Scottish Govenment is leading the way with the Saltaire Prize.

@apocalyptichybrid3 don't forget the best one Geothermal Energy it has a potential of 3.2 trillion gigawatt-hours per year here in America alone and unlike wind wave tidal and solar its constant the earths core is always hot where as there can be windless days cloudy sky's or the sun has set and maybe an earthquake or the change in temperature moves the currents flow for tilde power but in the end the earths core is still hot 365 days a year 24 hours a day

That said, I am all for the development of renewable energy. Granted more R&D is needed to help it deliver more power, more reliably and less obtrusively...but you've got to start somewhere.

@MrQmason The situation in Japan is fairly unique in that they had a bunch of power stations situated close to an active quake zone. Although several other countries suffer earthquakes (China and the US to name 2) they don't appear to have this problem.
Couldn't believe the stupid kneejerk reaction by the German government to close all their nuclear power stations. When was the last time Germany had an earthquake?
You can count the number of major incidents over the last 60 years on one hand.

@saKhanSteele After the Japan disaster , I think many more will oppose nuclear. it works, but when you lose control of it like in the case of the Japanese earthquake, you'll have a situation that you may not be able to control.
This is the future and it will work as long as the people who control and own the energy companies of today have nothing to do with this. If profits are still going to be the 'name of the game' then nothing will ever work. Tidal, Wave, Solar, and Wind. NO NUCLEAR!

this will be the future. All the problems have a solution and corrosion and marine growth will be part off the answer to benifite us and the natural aquatic life, just be creative...
imagine the force that plays with heavy ships, boyancy and gravity.
