Bob Hoskins was the original choice for Al Capone but was bought out.

He looked alot more like Al Capone than Deniro.

Perhaps. But if you've seen old pictures of Al Capone, Bob Hoskins looks almost identical to him.

The only think that bothers me about De Niro as Capone is his mole. They could have made disapear with make-up. Is kinda of distracting. But aside this, he nailed as Capone in every single way. And as much Hoskins in a great actor, i doubted he would be half as menacing as De Niro was.

I think you're right. I'm a huge Deniro fan, but I always felt somebody else could have played this role. Don't know what it is, he doesn't look fat/old enough? Bob Hoskins was supposed to play Capone if Deniro wouldn't take the role and I think he would have made a more believable Capone.

I think I'd get a similar feeling if Deniro had gotten the part of Sonny in the Godfather, as he auditioned for.

i heard about de niro getting the part for sonny in the godfather also, but he doesnt fit the description in the book. james caan hit it dead on. i mean, deniro did a good job and all, and he even looked like capone i guess, but i think bob haskins might have looked more like capone. he might not have sounded as good as denrio did, with that weird steriotypical capone voice.
