The Gaudete Brass Quintet has quickly established itself as one of the premier brass chamber ensembles in the country today. Founded in 2004, the quintet is committed to sharing the great brass quintet literature with audiences in an exciting and relevant way. They are Artist-in-Residence at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

John Wilbye's music represents the epitome of the English Renaissance Madrigal. His texts, which were often his own, deal with love and nature flavored with elements of Greek and Roman mythology that were so popular at the time. The music, however, transcends the period. It challenges even the modern listener with quick shifts between major and minor modes and complex polyphonic lines.

These madrigals are edited for the Gaudete Brass by their trombonist Paul Von Hoff.

Recorded Live at the First United Methodist Church in Kenosha, WI.

Members:
Justin Olson - Trumpet
Ryan Berndt - Trumpet
Jean McCullough - French horn
Paul von Hoff - Trombone
Scott Tegge - Tuba

  • excellent.. thank- you

  • the flugel horns make the piece nice. the mellow sounds. there not as sharp as a trumpet. which is nice in this case.

  • That's amazing, I know some madrigals by Wilbye, but this piece nearly sounds Gabrieli-like ;-) Or it might have been one of the numerous "canzons" written *before* 1600 !

BTW, I like your sound, your tempo, your articulations, that's really wonderful :-)

  • Oh my what beautiful sound. Close my eyes and listen to such pure notes of brilliant composed music from a classic era .

    THANKYOU !

  • A very nice and musical performance. I like your sound and the way you play together very much. Jean Louvain
