The Hutsul village band from Tjaciv, Western Ukraine (called Tecso in Hungarian) played at the Kafana Serbian restaurant on April 2, 2007. The baqnd preserves a lot of old Carpathian Jewish repetoire, since the father of the accordion player and drummer, Manyo Chernovec, had been the favorite musician of the local Jewish population in the region immediately after World War Two. This tune, called the "7:40" (after the name of a local train)is one of the most widespread and favorite tunes of Jews from the transcarpathian region. The tsymbaly (small Ukrainian cimbalom) player is the repalcement for the late Misha Chernovec, who passed away in January of this year and is also the director of a local music school in Tjaciv.

  • Yes, it is very interesting. The sounds are caracteristic from the southwestern Ukraine. It is beautiful music. Greetings!

  • The arrival of the 7:40 train on which her love will arrive is a very universal theme, unless you are talking about some specific story I might not be aware of. Had this video started the song from the beginning, you would also hear the rhythm of the train starting and speeding up.

  • Yes, you are right. It is written by Jews from Ukraine based in Ukrainian folklore

  • Yes, it is written by Ukrainean Jews.
