WD 40 will damage your o,x rings so that is why it is recommended not to be used
-
actually wd-40 contains a kerosene base and is very strong and does not leave an oil residue. This is a misconception becuase people use it to unstick things. It penetrates in to the surface and loosens and lifts dirt, grease rust etc and is an excellent cleaner. It is easily wiped off for any application of a chain wax, grease etc.

dont use wd40... not volatile enough, it leaves a oily residue that prevents chain wax from sticking well to a hot chain (yeah, wax when hot, back from a ride).
clean/wax every 600km.on the road: just bring a 14" hard wood to lift rear axle while on side stand. carry a 8x11 cardboard to slip between rear wheel and chain. Clean/wax the middle bottom section of chain. always do so from the inside out, so centripedal force will help (swing the cleaner out, and the wax deeper in

Just use wd-40 .Spray it, wipe it with a nice soft terry cloth., repeat, done. Apply your chain wax and ride!!

@DoomXexec311 From my knowledge its not the stiffness of the brush its the actions of the bristles, it can push dirt past the o-ring/x-ring, ive been told just wipe dirty grease/oil off the chain with a rag.and reoil. To each their own though, idk if yall replace chains every 15k :) more business for me
Dude you put that lube on WAY too thick. The chain needs just a light coating, not drenched. Especially if you're doing it every 500 miles.

I do not recommend using a brush on a o-ring or x-ring style chain, from what i have been told, seen and read this pushes dirt into the inside of the seal points and will further increase wear. My sources are MMI, motorcycle drag racing professionals, 5+ years of riding experience.

Thanks for posting. I've only had my bike a few months so all the maintenance tasks are new to me. Very useful.
