cooking in a thermos. Here is another attempt at frugal cooking. In my first vid,the Beans came out great. The next two tries at rice needed a little more experimentation to get all the rice cooked. This time, with noodles, they came out the perfect consistency. This has been a fun little project and I may use this method of cooking for small two people meals. My next vid will be up tonight and it will be on the success or failure of a stew I out together this morning. Cya. Brad

  • The Nissan is nice, but large. Check out Stanley's new food specific thermos/jar. It is short, wide, and has a wider opening for food, so you don't run into that problem like you have with the noodles being stuck in the narrow opening. Roughly $25 each, but with sales and coupons can be had just under $20 each, one bottle is roughly one man sized meal serving of food.

  • @8digitPDX ill check it out. im not ata ll against stanley. i just found the thermos by nissan to be a little better at retaining heat over long periods. yopu are correct about the small opening. i big opening would make it easier to get the food out.

  • This gives me the idea to cook spagetti in my metal water bottle in my get home bag. just drop in spagetti and pour in the boiling water and bury it in the dirt and wait. I'll have to give it a try some time.

    Great video

    Take care

  • @moparmanpete i think it would cook in about 25 -30 mins. you could just wrap it in a towel or some other article of clothing for that long. of all the things i tried cooking in the thermpos the noodles where the easiest.

  • Just thought I should let you know. The 61 oz Nissan you have can't be had for less than $41 so far as I can find. That would include shipping, etcetera. Therefore, there will never again be a need to apologize for paying too much, and the owner of the Bass place where you bought your's will escape a beating.

You say you can't think of much else to make. How about wheat or oats with a little brown sugar or honey, maybe some raisins or other dried fruit, set the thermos on it's side overnight.

  • @DIYMakerman i know they are expensive, but after my test with the stanley im thinking they are worth the extra dough.i dont feel bad saying that now that i know that stanley isnt american made anymore (what is)actaull, just a side note. that stanley has banged around on the floor of my truck for 17 years and the handle just fell off today.i sent an email to stanley asking them if they would spot weld it back on,an they said the would probably just give me a new one. thats a good warranty there.

  • If you are conserving water in a survival or emergency situation you can poor the leftover water from the pasta into your cup and make hot chocolate, broth that you can then add your noodles to, coffee or tea:-)

  • Men like this idea than women!
